The Mask

They sang beautiful rhymes
luring us to their beats
In ecstasy
we yelled for more

With smiling mask
lyrical spear
our hearts deeply pieced
we only hear the flowing rhythm

The tribute of our eyes
flooded the lids down the chin
our vision impaired
with dropping crumbs
from the worst of crops

In tears we wailed
still we hail and hail
wagging our tail
for mere trickles
We bore heavy pain
in our  land of gains
so we feed Fela's words
"suffering and smiling"
